Biography
Nan Garrett is co-chair of the Green Party National Women's Caucus. She delivered a portion of the Green Party's
rebuttal to President Bush's State of the Union speech in 2007. Previously associated with the Democratic Party of
Georgia, Garrett was a member of the first coordinating council of the Georgia Green Party 1996-98. She has
served on the coordinating council numerous times since then, has represented the Georgia Green Party in the National Committee of the Green Party of the United States, and is a member of the Green Party Lavender Caucus. Garrett was
the Georgia Green Party's candidate for Governor in 2002.
A lifelong resident of Georgia, Garrett has been an
attorney for over 20 years and a public servant for over
15 years. She has served as a law clerk, a public defender,
a legislative aide, an attorney for an education agency and
a magistrate judge, serving in all three branches of
Georgia government. In addition, she has been an entrepreneur,
running her own law practice among other private
ventures.
In 2004, Garrett appeared on a Drug Reform panel at the
Libertarian National Convention in Atlanta, GA, along
with Rob Kampia of the Marijuana Policy Project and Keith
Stroup of NORML.
